Max Mara is an Italian fashion house best known for elegant, wearable, ready-to-wear clothing. The line was established by Achille Maramotti, a notable couture designer, in 1951. The name, “Mara” came from Maramotti’s surname, and "Max" came from Count Max, an inspirational local character that Maramotti knew who was seldom sober but always stylish. Over time, Maramotti employed big names such as Karl Lagerfeld, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Dolce & Gabbana and Narciso Rodriguez. Currently, the company has 2,254 stores in 90 different countries. The Max Mara brand has also spawned 35 labels, including Marella, Max & Co, Sportmax, Pennyblack and Marina Rinaldi - a plus-size label named after Maramotti's great-grandmother. Celebrities who have been seen in Max Mara clothing are Mary-Kate Olsen, Molly Sims, Emily Blunt, and Reese Witherspoon. Max Mara apparel can be found at most Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom stores.
